Carved by the ocean that borders the Ivorian coast, the sand dollar is the star of Assinie's beaches in Côte d'Ivoire. Its name - sand dollar, in English, which became SANDOLA for AC by AC - this small fossilized shell owes to the first American explorers who, upon discovering it on the southern seashores, attributed to it a resemblance to a coin. On the shores of Grand-Lahou, a legend tells of a star that fell from the sky to illuminate fishermen lost at sea. Its light guided them to the shore and saved them from a shipwreck. In the morning, the star had landed on the sand and transformed into a starfish. The fishermen then named it the sand dollar, fascinated by its perfectly round shape, light color, and the delicate glow it revealed under the light.

Among the ancestral tales of West Africa, the legend of the Ashanti doll—Akua’ba—stands out for its profound connection to fertility and motherhood. The legend tells the story of a woman named Akua, "born on a Wednesday," who struggled to have a child ("Ba"). The village healer advised her to have a wooden doll carved and to treat it as her own child. Akua followed these instructions with devotion, carrying the doll on her back, feeding it, bathing it, and cherishing it as if it were a living being. She endured mockery, but her perseverance was soon rewarded. Akua became pregnant, giving birth to a healthy daughter. From then on, the women of the community began to adopt this practice, carrying similar dolls to invoke fertility or to ensure the health and beauty of their future children. With strong aesthetic symbolism, Ashanti dolls have become symbols of luck and are now elevated to the status of works of art.

A royal and sacred symbol, deeply rooted in history, the kente is much more than a simple fabric. Its legend, combining patience and beauty, begins with two men who went hunting in the forest. Then came a precious encounter with a creature. Like threads of white gold, the animal wove its web with the greatest care. For two nights, thread after thread, their eyes were lost in this breathtaking geometric web. Because beauty deserves to be shared, the men, enriched by these precious patterns, began to weave in turn. The precious work was offered to the King, who was amazed by it. And so, kente, the cloth of Kings, was born. Once reserved for the elite, today kente is worn on special occasions like weddings and has become a true symbol of African cultural identity.
